Matteo Berrettini tops van de Zandschulp again in Tokyo, out goes Luciano Darderi
ATP Tokyo: Matteo Berrettini in second round, Luciano Darderi out
After winning the match in the group stage of the Davis Cup, Matteo Berrettini also defeated Botic van de Zandschulp in his debut in the Tokyo tournament. The Roman tennis player, in fact, è won with a peremptory 6-3 6-4 over his Dutch rival.
The match started immediately uphill for the Italian, who immediately lost his serve in the opening game. However, the Dutchman fails to be incisive and the Rome native takes advantage of this to immediately bring himself back to even parity. From then on, there's only Berrettini on the court, who posts a series of five games to zero, paving the way for the 6-3 final.
The second partial is decided in the first game, as the Italian player manages to snatch the serve from van de Zandschulp and maintain the lead until the tenth game, where he easily closes the match thanks to an excellent service performance.
It's already over, however, Luciano Darderi's adventure at the Tokyo ATP. The world's number 41 tennis player, in fact, è been defeated by Argentine Mariano Navone with the score of 6-4 6-4, in a match in which the Italian-Argentinian will have much to recriminate given the numerous break points not exploited.
In the second round, Berrettini will play against the winner of the match between Taylor Fritz and Arthur Fils.
