The Tour of Lombardy loses a major player
Primoz Roglic ends season prematurely
With the 2024 edition just days away, the Giro di Lombardia is reckoning with a major forfeit, that of Primoz Roglic. The Slovenian veteran, winner of the Giro d'Italia 2023 and four editions of the Vuelta (the last of which a few weeks ago) has in fact decided to close his season prematurely, thus skipping the last classic proposed by the cycling calendar.
"A long season is coming to an end – reads the social channels of Roglic’s team, Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe, which made official the decision of the 35-year-old born in Trbovlje -. Primoz and his staff have decided to close an exciting year and start from today the off-season".
In this 2024, Roglic won the Vuelta 2024, also taking three stage wins, he è also ranked first in the general classification of the Tour of Dauphiné (where he won two fractions) and won the first stage, a time trial, of the Tour of the Basque Country.
Unfortunate, however, was his experience at the Tour de France, which he did not complete due to the physical consequences of a crash on stage 12, while at the World Championships in Zurich he rode alongside compatriot Tadej Pogacar, working toward the latter's capture of the rainbow jersey.
