Among the various reactions to Rafael Nadal’s retirement, one could not miss the comment of his historical rival Roger Federer, who sent a touching message to the Spaniard through his "Instagram" profile.
"What a career, Rafa! I always hoped this day would never come. Thank you for the unforgettable memories and all the incredible achievements in the sport we love. It's been an absolute honor to share the court with you" these are the sweet words of the former Swiss tennis player.
Nadal and Federer have played each other 40 times in their careers (the last head-to-head clash was in the 2019 Wimbledon semifinals), with a 24-16 record in favor of the Spaniard, who has been able to make the difference on clay with 14 wins out of 16. In Slams, however, the Majorcan è holds a 10-4 advantage, with a clear 6-0 lead in the precendents at Roland Garros.
The rivalry between Federer and Nadal è has been one of the most important in the history of world sports, thanks in part to some legendary matches such as the 2007 and 2008 Wimbledon finals, the 2009 and 2017 Australian Open last act. The Swiss player ended his career with 20 Major titles to his credit, while the Spaniard won 22.
