Novak Djokovic compares himself to Jannik Sinner
After his defeat to Jannik Sinner in the Shanghai Masters 1000 final, Novak Djokovic made a very personal comparison of the world number one in a press conference: "He reminds me of myself in all the strokes of the game. He has improved his serve so much. I think he has become a great weapon. È very aggressive from the baseline, as soon as he gets a short ball, he takes the initiative. È just very solid on both forehand and backhand, he doesn't make too many mistakes and simply tries to take time away from his opponent".
"This reminds me of myself throughout my career, what I have been doing for so many years consistently,” added the Serbian outfielder. “Playing fast-paced tennis, taking time away from the opponent, in a way suffocating the opponent. You want your opponent to always feel pressure from your shots, your speed, your presence on the court. So, he has all that. This year è he has been so constant. È really, really impressive".
"I think there are several positive aspects that I can consider,” Nole continued. First of all, I think the level of my tennis was really good in this tournament, probably the best since the Olympic Games in terms of how I played, how I performed, how I fought".
"I gave it my all tonight. Given the context, you know, maybe I didn’t feel 100% fresh, but at the same time a big credit to Jannik for playing the important points better than I did, and è that’s what made the difference. He deserved to win, è he was just too strong in the important moments" concluded Djokovic.
