Benetton Rugby-Mirco Spagnolo: the marriage continues
Through a note issued on its official channels, Benetton Rugby has announced the contract extension of Mirco Spagnolo until June 30, 2027. The 23-year-old pylon è landed at the Lions last season and over the course of a year è has grown so much as to reach very high levels and thus become a crucial element of the green-and-white pack. Very solid at the closed scrum, Mirco è also distinguished himself for being able to win kept in every area of the field and at the international level is then imposing himself in so many aspects of the game. Mobile with the oval in hand and steadfast in the fundamental of tackling, Spagnolo has embarked on a steadily rising path of improvement.
Born in Camposampiero, Italy, on Jan. 2, 2001, Spagnolo has been passionate about the oval ball since childhood. He took his first rugby steps at Camposampiero Rugby, a team from his hometown. Then he moved to Valsugana Rugby and began to highlight himself for his excellent skills in the scrum. A left pylon, Mirco also goes through the ranks of the National Academy and as the weeks go by he refines his technical qualities, turning out to be a brilliant performer in the open field and with the oval in his hands.
His performances don’t go unnoticed and he earns call-ups to the Under-17 Italy, but especially to the Under-20 Italy, with which he plays in the 2021 Six Nations of the category. Spanish attracts the attentions of several formations and at 20 years of age he switches to the rugby of the older players, signing with Petrarca Padova. Despite his young age’he became a point of reference for the Petrarchini. With the latter he won the 2022 Scudetto and in 2023 he again reached the Top 10 final. At Petrarch, Spagnolo collected 45 appearances and 5 goals.
In the summer of 2023 Mirco signed with Benetton Rugby and coach Marco Bortolami immediately set his sights on him. Spagnolo has already collected 23 appearances and 1 try with the green-and-whites. For him as well, the call to the Major Italy gathering to be part of the group of the national team that prepared the Six Nations in 2023 and finally the absolute debut with Italy in 2024. In the Six Nations played this year, Mirco took part in all 5 matches. Finally, he also participated in the 3 matches of Italy’s summer tour.
