Jannik Sinner to be admired: Joao Fonseca reveals touching backstory
Joao Fonseca spares no compliments for Jannik Sinner
During an interview given to the official ATP website, young Brazilian hopeful Joao Fonseca, among other topics, wanted to spend sweet words of admiration regarding Jannik Sinner's behavior both on and off the court. More specifically, the Brazilian player wanted to tell a touching backstory related to his first meeting with the world number one.
"The first time I met Jannik è was at the Nitto ATP Finals in Turin in 2023. I was there as a sparring partner and we exchanged some shots on the first or second day. He's a really nice guy. At first my plan was to go to college, I had already made a commitment to the University of Virginia, but Jannik, on that occasion, told me that I was too good for that and that my place was in tennis among the professionals. It was a great feeling to hear something like that from a player of his caliber. It was the first time I trained with him and è he was really nice, as well as his coaches" began the Brazilian tennis player.
"I hope to play next season the Next Gen ATP Finals. Many strong players have managed to win that tournament and I would say that the one I most like to admire and see myself in most è Sinner. I like his aggressive game. Technically, the way he plays, his pressure on the court, he represents just the tennis that I prefer and the style that is closest to mine. Mentally, on the other hand, he è a little bit more; calm. He's a shy guy and I like the way he competes. He è not very expressive and è very similar to me in that" added the 2006 class.
"My father è my main source of inspiration. He helped me a lot throughout my young career. I am really grateful to him and to my mother. It's really nice to have my parents working with me. They cheer for me, I feel their closeness and they have also helped me a lot with travel and sponsors" concluded Joao Fonseca.
