Hours of anguish for Matilde Lorenzi
Hours of great apprehension for Matilde Lorenzi, a 20-year-old from Villarbasse, in the province of Turin, and a member of the junior women’s ski team of the Army Sports Center. During a training session carried out by the team on the snow of the Val Senales (Bolzano) glacier, Matilde suffered a disastrous fall.
Immediately rescued, è she was transported by helicopter to Bolzano hospital, where doctors are assessing her condition, which, according to reports from Ansa, would be extremely critical. From initial findings, it appears that the young athlete, while skiing down the Gravand G1 slope, lost control after her skis separated, causing her to fall face-first into the icy ground. Following the impact, one of the skis è disengaged, causing her to fall off the slope.
During the past season, Matilde achieved important results, winning the overall and youth Italian titles in the super-giant specialty in Sarentino.
Also last year, she è placed sixth in downhill and eighth in super-giant at the junior world championships in Chatel, France. In addition, she placed 11th in the super-giant in St. Moritz in December 2023, marking her best finish in the European Cup.
