The’man you don’t expect, Justin Murisier, won the first downhill of the season on the Birds of Prey in Beaver Creek, with a time of 1’40″04, beating illustrious teammate and favorite of the day, Marco Odermatt, by 2 tenths. Also on the podium was Slovenian Miha Hrobat, 35 hundredths behind Murisier.

The 32-year-old Swiss had never won in his career, and boasted, before today, only one World Cup podium, in the 2020 Badia giant slalom. But today he was able to put in an almost perfect downhill, very fast on the initial level (best time), but also in the technical and very steep part of the Birds of Prey. Beaten Vincent Kriechmayr, who nevertheless finishes fifth, and Cyprien Sarrazin, ninth.

Azzurri inaccurate in the technical section and finished outside the top 15. The best è Dominik Paris, certainly not satisfied with his race, finishing 19th at 1″69 from Murisier. Discreet comeback race for Florian Schieder (knee surgery last March) who stays 1″81 from the first and è 23/o. Mattia Casse è 26/o at 2″04 from the leader.

Good race for Giovanni Franzoni, who started with 57 and returned to downhill after almost a year. The 23-year-old Gardesano goes into the points with 27th place at 2″11 from the top. Benjamin Alliod also did well, at 2″26, fast especially at the top and just outside the points zone. Christof Innerhofer closes at 3″22, Pietro Zazzi at 4″10.
