Ian Matteoli second in Klagenfurt big air
Second consecutive World Cup podium for Ian Matteoli who è was second in the Big Air in Klagenfurt surpassed only by Japan’s Taiga Hasegawa. After the place of honor in Beijing, the 19-year-old from Bardonecchia è still at the top of this snowboarding specialty, and the city challenge in Klagenfurt rewards him with an impressive 175.25 points, thanks to the excellent 87.50 and 87.75 points collected in the first two tests.
This is the third career podium finish for the Piedmontese of the SCMDC Team, which opened its path in December 2022, when at 17 years of age yet to be completed he was third at Copper Mountain. It has been a sumptuous season so far for Matteoli, who è was fourth at the season opener in Chur and then tucked in a double second place, between China and Carinthia.
In today's third and final round, the Italian tried to play all his cards to undermine Hasegawa (179.75) from the first position, but the final trick did not è go his way. For Matteoli è however, an excellent second place came, followed by Norway’s Oyvind Kirkhus (172), Czech Jakub Hrones (169.25) and host Clemens Millauer (160.75).
However, the other Italian nationals Loris and Leo Framarin, Nicola Liviero and Emiliano Lauzi had not qualified for the final. Hasegawa and Matteoli occupy the top two positions in the Big Air World Cup standings, with the Japanese at 229 followed by the Italian with 210 points. On the other hand, Britain's Mia Brookes with 184.25 points won the women's event ahead of Japan's Fukada (182.25) and Suzuki (166.75).
