The resounding success in the giant in Are, achieved after recovering more than a second of the delay accumulated in the first run, è undoubtedly one of the mostù beautiful for Federica Brignone, who in addition to the 26th career victory in the CdM also keeps alive the hopes of a comeback in the standings, althoughé Lara Gut-Behrami still has an almost irretrievable advantage.

Federica Brignone: "I had to try the'impossible"

"After the first run I was not happy – admitted the Valle d’Aosta woman to the official channels of the Italian Winter Sports Federation -. I had not felt confident and I had not been able to put my best skiing on the track. Before the second I told myself that I should try the’impossible, give everything 100% and so I did".

"It’ is a slope that I like, but I had never won there,” Brignone, the first Italian to win a women’s giant in Are, went on to explain.”I am skiing well, in competition and in training, I have to say that I am really very happy and proud of what I am doing in this season finale. I owe a lot to the team, becauseé we are a very united and great group".

Record on record being updated

With Saturday’s success, Brignone è reached 11 podiums in the 2023/24 season, equaling the number of top-three finishes in 2019/20, the year that saw her triumph in the overall standings. In addition to updating the record number of Italian World Cup victories at the women’s level with 26, the 67th career podium finish allows her to get to -2 from Gustav Thoeni (second in the ranking led by Alberto Tomba with 88).

As far as the World Cup rankings are concerned, Federica Brignone remains secondbehind Lara Gut-Behrami in both the general ranking (1,654 points for the Swiss, 1,368 for Federica) and the giant ranking, with the Valle d’Aosta native at 650 and the Ticino native at 745.
