Sofia Goggia and Federica Brignone, special training with Lindsey Vonn

Skiing, special training
There are some of the iconic women skiers of the Alpine Ski World Cup, but not only, in action these last days of the holidays on the “La VolatA” slope in Val di Fassa’s San Pellegrino Ski Area. In order to better prepare for next weekend’s fast races in St. Anton, the legendary American Lindsey Vonn, Italian champions Sofia Goggia and Federica Brignone and emerging New Zealand talent Alice Robinson in fact tested materials and innovations, as well as refined some technical details along the 2.400 meters of development of the course, which has an average gradient of 28.4%, maximum of 47%, with an elevation gain of 600 meters, a track that in 2021 hosted three races of the maximum women’s circuit and last February was supposed to host a’another two-day World Cup, then canceled due to heavy snowfall.
Given the occasion, a real-life hag named Francy also made a nice appearance, who, as is tradition, handed out sweets to the girls of the Italian team at the end of training at the “In Alto” refuge on Col Margherita, namely to Elena Curtoni, Roberta Melesi, Asia Zenere and sisters Nicol and Nadia Delago, and the other Gardenawoman Sara Thaler, saving coal for coaches Giovanni Feltrin and Gianluca Rulfi, who are always patient and professional.
Doing the honors were Alpe Lusia/San Pellegrino consortium president Mauro Vendruscolo and ApT Val di Fassa director Nicolò Weiss. Intense training, but also relaxing and light moments for the athletes who are always under stress and in the spotlight, who always find the ideal climate in Val di Fassa, as witnessed by the hug and friendly dialogue between Goggia and Vonn near the Col Margherita valley station. And then photos, selfies and autograph signings.
These days the various national teams have been doing training of the fast disciplines in the San Pellegrino Ski Area, but also giant slalom training at the Ski Stadium Aloch in San Giovanni di Fassa. Val di Fassa, after hosting last December 15 the 22ª edition of the Special Slalom European Cup on the Aloch slope in San Giovanni di Fassa, è now ready for another challenge in another discipline: skicross. In fact, the International Federation has assigned to the Ladin organization coordinated by Val di Fassa Grandi Eventi the two-day World Cup scheduled in a month, on February 8 and 9, anticipated by two days of training and qualification in the Costabella ski park, in the San Pellegrino Ski Area.
