Tommaso Giacomel between anger and pride
Tommaso Giacomel confirms himself as a protagonist. After his first success in Ruhpolding, the Italian finished in third place in the Anterselva sprint, delivering an outstanding performance on skis at the Südtirol Arena that allowed him to come close to victory despite two shooting errors, one for each polygon.
“If I had not made a mistake, I would have won by a margin and so a little bit of anger I had at the finish,” he admitted to FISI channels, “but getting on the podium with two mistakes is not something for everyone, so I am happy. The success in Ruhpolding è was a big relief for me, now things are a bit easier for me. I was nervous today becauseè I felt that the audience expected a lot from me: there’è an incredible atmosphere here in Antholz and I had wonderful skis".
"I was pretty good to do a race like that" and I’m glad I didn’t disappoint the fans,” he added, “although the biggest expectations are the ones I put on myself, not so much those of others: I’m not thinking about the Olympic Games yet, there’è still a year ahead".
For Giacomel this is the fifth personal podium: " It’ the first time I have been on the podium for two consecutive races: in the final lap I knew I could get back on the leaders, I recovered but not enough to win. In the new, somewhat’ tougher finish my form helped me; now let’s try to have a good relay, since in Ruhpolding it didn’t è go well, we all want to do our best".
