GeVi Napoli: official a reinforcement under the levers

After the farewell of Ben Beltil, GeVi Napoli immediately runs for cover by placing an important blow under the boards. Through a note issued on its official channels, in fact, the Campania club has announced the arrival of Nigerian center John Egbunu.

Born in Bauchi, Nigeria, on October 31, 1994, Egbunu moved with his family to Georgia (USA) at a very young age. In 2013-2014, he began his collegiate career with the University of South Florida where he set a record for rebounds (198). The following year he transferred to the University of Florida where he stayed for three seasons.

In 2019 he starts again in the G-League with the Long Island Nets, a Brooklyn satellite team, where he averages 10.3 points and 7.4 rebounds per game. At the beginning of the 2020-21 season he signs with the Koreans of KT Sonicboom team with which he plays only 4 games before moving to Italy for the first time with Pallacanestro Varese, where he plays 20 games in two glimpses of the season finishing with an average of about 11 points and 9 rebounds per game.

The following year after a brief stint in Israel with Hapoel Jerusalem, Egbunu moved to the Turkish A1 league, wearing the Gaziantep jersey and maintaining consistent performances and similar numbers. In the following season, he made his Euroleague debut with ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne. During the same year, he continued his career in China, playing for the Ningbo Rockets. In the 2024/25 season, he moved to the Shanghai Sharks and in January è landed in the Spanish Liga ACB, signing with Rio Breogán, where he played five games, before joining Napoli Basket.

"I am really happy to join the club, I look forward to working with my teammates, the technical staff and contributing to the work of the team. I look forward to nothing more than meeting our fans" these, finally, are the first words of John Egbunu as a player of GeVi Napoli.
