Jonathan Milan aims for Milan-San Remo

Jonathan Milan wants to succeed in a feat that Italian cycling has failed to celebrate for a full seven years: winning Milan-San Remo. On the sidelines of the UAE Tour, where he won the first stage by beating Finn Fisher-Black and Tobias Lund Andresen in a sprint, the Lidl-Trek sprinter from Friuli has in fact confirmed that he wants to have fun on the roads of the Emirates, aiming forò the Classicissima on March 22. The last representative of the tricolor to triumph on the historic finish line of Via Roma è was Vincenzo Nibali, in 2018.

"We are here to prepare the Milan-San Remo, although the race finale è different – confirmed the winner of the first stage of the Tour of the UAE, which ended on the finish line placed at the height of Liwa Palace, in Abu Dhabi -, then there will be the other classics. First, forò we want to have fun at the UAE Tour".

"I was very motivated to sprint to win this stage, because the finish was slightly uphill,” added Milan. “It was important to find the best position, to start the sprint at 700 meters. I also saw Pogacar attacking, I followed a Bardiani man and made my sprint".

Jonathan Milan not only celebrated his success on the roads of the UAE Tour, but also wore the red jersey of the leader of the classification, although the race does not lend itself to the ultimate success of a sprinter: "There are already better specialists than me in time trials,” he said, “but I will do everything I can to keep the jersey".
