Historic triumph for Mirra Andreeva in Dubai
Mirra Andreeva makes tennis history in Dubai. The Russian tennis player, in fact, defeated Danish Clara Tauson in two sets with a score of 7-6 6-1, becoming, at the age of 17 years and 298 days, the youngest player ever to win a Masters 1000.
The first set started immediately uphill for the Russian, who immediately lost her serve in the second game. The Krasnoyarsk native’s reaction, however, was not long in coming, as between the third and ninth games she placed a five-game-to-two split. Tauson, with her back against the wall, did not flinch and managed to recover the disadvantage in turn, taking the match to the tie-break, which was dominated with a clear 7-1 by Andreeva.
In the second set, the Danish tennis player soon exits the match, as after holding the serve in the second game, she suffers a five-game losing streak that gives the victory to the young Russian.
"Honestly è unbelievable. I had as a goal to get into the top 10 by the beginning of the year, but it is only the end of February and I did it .I am so happy with the way I played. I was very nervous, made a few too many double faults and errors, but I was able to handle the pressure. I never thought about the possibility of winning, I just focused on the next point. It was tough, in the first set I feel I was lucky, but è something I dreamed of as a child and now the dream è became reality. I am speechless" these are the warm statements of Mirra Andreeva after the triumph.
