Federica Brignone doesn’t stop anymore, victory with a thrill in Are! Sofia Goggia out in the second run

Federica Brignone wins again
On the snows of Are, Sweden, alpine skiing Italy celebrates another resounding success by Federica Brignone, who won the giant slalom on the Stortloppsbacken slope, dominating both the first and second runs, so much so that she finished with an impressive 1"36 lead over the second place finisher, New Zealander Alice Robinson.
Yet her success è seemed to fade in the final part of the decisive run: Brignone momentarily lost her footing on the snow and gave the impression of sliding toward the outside of the slope, but a spectacular recovery allowed her to lose very little to her rival and retain her huge lead.
The joy of Brignone’s umpteenth success is countered by the bitterness of the other Italian champion, Sofia Goggia: having finished second in the opening run and hoping to grab a CdM podium in the giant slalom for the first time since 2018, the Bergamasque made a serious mistake in the third sector, which led her to miss a gate and, therefore, be disqualified regardless of the final result. Closing out the podium was Lara Colturi, Italian by birth but naturalized Albanian: for the daughter of art (both mother è the Super-G Olympic champion in 2002, Daniela Ceccarelli) è her third podium finish of the season in the World Cup.
In the overall standings, Federica Brignone continues to dominate, with 1294 points taking her +322 ahead of Lara Gut-Behrami (ninth today). Brignone herself è however, second in the specialty ranking related to the giant slalom with 500 points, 20 less than Alice Robinson.
