Jannik Sinner away: Carlos Alcaraz loses smile and blurts out
Yet another disappointment for Carlos Alcaraz, defeated in the semifinals in Indian Wells by Jack Draper. The Murcia tennis player will thus fail to win his third consecutive title in the U.S. tournament, and more importantly, he will no longer be able to overtake Jannik Sinner before the end of the Blue's suspension.
The world number 3 in recent weeks has also lost valuable points in Qatar, and now he is unlikely to be able to return to world number one before the grass season, given all the points he will have to defend in the coming months on clay and at Wimbledon.
The gap to his rival è now over 4 thousand points: to catch up with Azzurro Alcaraz he would have to win in Miami, Monte Carlo, Barcelona and Madrid before reaching Rome. In the press conference Carlos è vented: "This defeat hurts. I don’t want to lose any match, but I think this one was even more special for me. È it was difficult today. What could I have done better? Simply play my tennis and go on the court with less nervousness".
" I am angry with myself for the way I approached the match, for how I felt throughout the day, for not being able to calm down. This è for me, the most disappointing thing I’m feeling right now becauseé the first set è was probably one of the worst sets I played".
On the source of his nervousness: "I think today I was more concerned about Draper’s game than I was about myself. So I think that was a big problem for me, that I was always thinking about his weaknesses rather than my strengths: when you think more about the’opponent than about yourself, then è a big problem".
