EuroBasket 2025, Italy in Group C: the Azzurri’s opponents

Italy’s EuroBasket 2025 will start in Cyprus. In Limassol, in fact, the Azzurri will take on Greece (Thursday, Aug. 28), Georgia (Saturday, Aug. 30), Bosnia and Herzegovina (Sunday, Aug. 31), Spain (Tuesday, Sept. 2) and Cyprus (Thursday, Sept. 4) in Group C.
This is the outcome of the group draw for the continental review, which will be staged from Aug. 27 to Sept. 14 among Latvia (Riga), Finland (Tampere), Cyprus (Limassol) and Poland (Katowice).
If they make it through the round (four out of six teams qualify), the Azzurri will cross round D, the Katowice round featuring France, Slovenia, Poland, Israel, Belgium and Iceland.
“As always, it is premature to make predictions many months before the start of competitions for Nationals – commented coach Gianmarco Pozzecco -So much will depend on the rosters that the teams will bring to the European Championship, and this also applies to us. What is certain as of now is that we will face the event with great responsibility and feeling the healthy pressure of representing Italy. The group is challenging and fascinating and not only because of the presence of Spain and Greece”.
If there is no precedent against Cyprus, Spain and Greece represent two historical opponents for Italy: with the Hellenes it will be challenge number 68, with the Iberians number 69: since 1926 the Azzurri have played more games against the same opponent only against France (101). From the two classics of European basketball to two crossovers, against Georgia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, from recent history: the first against Georgia dates back to 1998 while the first with the Bosnians is dated 2001.
