Mads Pedersen won for the third time in his career took victory at Ghent-Wevelgem. The 29-year-old Dane pulled away from everyone by crossing the finish line alone and taking his fourth win of the season.

“I didn’t expect to be able to do something like this, to win here again is a special feeling. 60 km alone? I had no idea, when you attack it can be the point of no return, today everything went well: I made that decision and it was the right one. I think I’ve never felt as good as I did today and I’m overjoyed.”

“I knew that in the last 5-10 km the peloton recovers so much, but in the last 300-400 meters I enjoyed the moment. I knew that if I won today I would join several riders as the recordman of this race, they are all resounding victories”.

He concluded on teammate Jonathan Milan’s third place, beaten by Tim Merlier in the bunch sprint: “This is a race I knew could put Milan in the best condition, we played our cards.”
