Anna Kalinskaya is pawing at her debut in the Charleston Open tournament, where she hopes to confirm the progress she showed in Miami after a start to the year that to call it complicated is an understatement. The Moscow tennis player will face in the first round of the event in South Carolina none other than Caty McNally, her doubles partner in recent tournaments played.

Kalinskaya, world No. 33, is favored against No. 414, although in the’only confrontation between the two, in 2022 in St. Petersburg, it was the American who prevailed in three sets.

The two are friends and paired up in Miami, where they reached the round of 16 in the doubles draw, and in Indian Wells, where they advanced to the quarterfinals.

The Russian tennis player, who has been silent on the current status of her relationship with Jannik Sinner, wants to climb up the WTA rankings ahead of Roland Garros.
