The special feeling between world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka and the Mutua Madrid Open, the WTA 1000 at Caja Magica on clay broadcast live and free-to-air on SuperTennis, continues. Thanks to a 63 75 over Ukraine’s Elina Svitolina, Sabalenka became the player with the most finals to her credit in the tournament, 4 as Simone Halep.

Sabalenka took 1 hour and 32 minutes to end Svitolina’s unbeaten streak on clay this season. The Belarusian, on court as a neutral athlete, saved five of the seven break points allowed to Svitolina. In total, she has saved 39 in the tournament: never has a player neutralized so many in a single WTA tournament this season.

First tennis player to reach six finals at the WTA level in tournaments started in the first four months of the season since Martina Hingis in 2001, she will face Coco Gauff on Saturday in the title match. The American dominated 61 61 the defending champion Iga Swiatek.

Gauff holds a slight advantage, 5-4, in head-to-head matches with Sabalenka. The U.S. won the only previous one on clay, in Rome in 2021, and she also won in the last confrontation, at the WTA Finals in Riyadh in 2024.

Sabalenka, however, has been the dominant force in the tournament this decade: her record now stands at 22 wins and 4 losses, with two titles won in 2021 and 2023. The world No. 1 is also the first player capable of achieving 30 wins in the main draw of WTA tournaments in 2025.
