In San Antonio, it’s the end of an'era

A San Antonio is the end of an’era. In fact, after a remarkable 29 years, 1390 wins in regula season and 5 NBA titles, Gregg Popovich officially resigns as head coach of the Spurs.
The decision reportedly came primarily based on recent health problems the 76-year-old coach had during this season. In his place, the Texas franchise has decided to promote to head coach Mitch Johnson, who has served as assistant to the historic coach for the past five seasons.
The Spurs have a history of being a head coach.
The story between Popovich and the San Antonio Spurs, however, has not ended, as the’winningest coach in NBA history will go on to serve as Franchise President.
“Although my love and passion for the game remain, I have decided it is time to leave the role of head coach. I will be eternally grateful to the wonderful players, coaches, staff and fans who have allowed me to serve them as head coach of the Spurs and I am excited about the opportunity to continue to support the organization, community and city that are so important to me” these are the words of Gregg Popovich.
“Coach Pop’s extraordinary impact on our family, San Antonio, the Spurs and the game of basketball is profound. His accolades and awards do not do justice to the’impact he has had on so many people. He’s truly unique as a person, leader and coach. Our entire family, along with fans around the world, is grateful to him for his extraordinary 29 years as head coach of the San Antonio Spurs” these, instead, were the statements of franchise owner Peter J.Holt.
