UYBA Volleyball Busto Arsizio today announced the acquisition of talented Mexican setter Melanie Parra for next season. Melanie, born in Culiacán, Sinaloa, class of 2002, already has an impressive career both at the college level in the U.S. and with the Mexican national team. 181cm tall, a great jumper and aggressive in attack, she presents a great variety of strokes, tactical intelligence and a flair for second-line fundamentals as well.
During her college career in the USA, Parra played for the Texas Longhorns and later for the TCU Horned Frogs. In the 2023 season, he recorded 482 points, setting a new school record for the most points in a single season. She also led the team with 60 service aces, setting a school record with an average of 0.61 aces per set.
The new butterfly then had an outstanding season in 2024 with the Texas Christian University (TCU) volleyball team. In 28 matches, she totaled 531 winning attacks, averaging 5.06 per set, and 55 service aces, ranking first in both categories in the Big 12 Conference. She also contributed 257 defense and 61 walls, accumulating a total of 620.5 points, the highest in the conference.
During the season, Parra set a new school record with 34 winning attacks in a four-set match against Florida State. She became the first player in TCU history to make as many as 34 winning attacks in two matches. In addition, she was named Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week six times, equaling the record for the most awards in a single season in the conference. He also reached and surpassed 1,000 career winning attacks.
