WEVCA, the European association of women’s volleyball clubs is born

On the occasion of the Final Four of CEV Champions League 2024-25, the Women’s European Volleyball Club Association (WEVCA) was officially founded on Friday, May 2, 2025 at the Sheraton Atasehir Istanbul. Headquartered in Bülach, Switzerland, the newly formed association brings together 12 of the most prestigious women’s volleyball clubs from four European countries (Turkey, Italy, Poland, and France) with the aim of strengthening cooperation between major European clubs, sports institutions, and growing fan bases.

The WEVCA is a new association that will be held in the city of Bülach, Switzerland.

The founding meeting was attended by Ferkan Merdan and Alp Tolga Simsek for VakifBank Istanbul, Erdal Karamercan and Bilun Gunal for Eczacıbaşı, Paolo Nocentini and Sandra Leoncini for Scandicci, Aldo Fumagalli for Vero Volley, Hulusi Belgu for Fenerbahçe, Nesva Buyukbayram for Galatasaray, Stav Jacobi for Volero Le Cannet; Zuzanna Biarylak for Łódź, Asuman Bas for Türk Hava Yolları, Rafal Mardoń for Rzeszów, and Sylvia Zatti for Mulhouse were on video link.

In addition to the approval of the Bylaws, the institutional positions of the Board (Erdal Karamercan, Aldo Fumagalli, Rafal Mardon, and Stav Jacobi) were appointed including that of the President of the Association, entrusted to Aldo Fumagalli who, together with Erdal Karamercan, will lead WEVCA in its mission at the European level.

“I am truly honored to be appointed as the first president of the WEVCA,” said Aldo Fumagalli, newly appointed WEVCA president. “I want to thank all the founding clubs for their trust and support. This is a historic moment for women’s volleyball in Europe and I am proud to help lead this ambitious and cohesive initiative. Together, we will build a stronger future for our sport. Our goal is not only to compete at the highest level, but also to innovate, inspire and empower. WEVCA stands for cooperation, excellence and progress. I am excited to begin this journey with such passionate and visionary clubs. Thank you for believing in this shared dream.”
