It was not an easy night, from a sporting point of view, for Barcelona, which not only saw its qualification to the Champions League final in soccer slip away in overtime against Inter Milan, but also missed out on access to the Euroleague Final Four in basketball, losing by only one point (85-84) in the decisive game-5 against Monaco.

The club from the Principality will therefore play the decisive phase of the most prestigious continental competition together with Olympiacos, Panathinaikos and Fenerbahce in Abu Dhabi, in the United Arab Emirates, but the blaugrana would have already found a reason for consolation: according to reports by ‘Sportando’ and confirmed by the Iberian media, Barça would be very close to the signing, for next season, of Tornike “Toko” Shengelia.

Currently at Virtus Bologna, Shengelia&#8217s contract is expiring and he has never reached an agreement for renewal.

Barcelona would put a three-year deal on the table for the 33-year-old Tbilisi-born player, with a view to strengthening a team that this season, in addition to the European disappointment, stopped in the Super Cup semifinals and the quarterfinals of the King’s Cup, and that in the league is yes certain to play the playoffs, but has also crossed the psychological threshold of ten losses on the season.

For Shengelia it would be a return to the country where he grew up basketball-wise, having completed the youth sector in Valencia before making his senior debut at the same club in the orange jersey. In the Liga ACB, he also dressed the uniforms of Saski Baskonia between 2014 and 2020. He arrived in Italy in 2022, winning a Eurocup and two Italian Super Cups with Virtus Bologna.
