Jannik Sinner enters, albeit without shining, the round of 16 of the Internazionali d’Italia. At the Foro Italico, the Italian tennis player struggles more than expected to bend the resistance of world number 93 Jesper De Jong, complicit in a not exciting day on serve, but he still wins 6-4, 6-2 in an hour and a half match. In the next round he will face Argentina’s Francisco Cerundolo, who eliminated him two years ago in Rome itself in the round of 16.

More complicated than expected first set for Sinner, who closed 6-4 in 50 minutes against a tougher-than-expected opponent. After a good start with a double break lead, l’Azzurro suffered a mini blackout and from 4-1 found himself down 4-4, mainly due to obvious problems with his serve. After parity the world number one found himself and again snatched service from the Dutchman, ending the partial.

In the second set, Sinner got the break in the third game, while De Jong on the partial 3-2 for the Blue called a medical time out after a slip on the ground, where he suffered a blow to his right wrist.

The physiotherapist&#8217s intervention did not improve the situation, the No. 93 had his wrist bandaged but was no longer able to be effective either in response or serving, and Jannik took advantage of this to quickly close out the match.
