Massimo Moratti, set to turn 80 on Friday, spoke to the Gazzetta drllo Sport: “My father’s Grande Inter was an example and remains in my heart, it was the equivalent of the Beatles. As unique as that quartet that disrupted a particular era. I could not make musical pairings with all the other teams that I later had as president. The one of the Triplete made history, but I am also fond of the wonderful boys of ’98 who did not win the Scudetto only because of a “thievery” by Juve”.

“Juventus in those years was a wall, it made people despair in the sense that it took away hope for what was behind it. There was this wall beyond which you could not go. When we succeeded, we won everything. Calciopoli remains one of the ugliest pages of our soccer, to be forgotten. Abroad I never had a fixed enemy, although Manchester United made us suffer”.

“As an 80th birthday present would I prefer the Champions League or the Scudetto? Although we can hit both, I understand that two gifts do not give me…Winning a second Scudetto in a row would please me very much, but it is clear that the Champions League has a special flavor. The gift then I leave it to those who give it…”.

“More likely to win Scudetto or Champions League? I say the Scudetto, in a Champions League final anything can happen. From there there are two games, even with the opponent ahead by one point”.
