Olimpia, Messina’s philosophy: "Scudetto? Important is growth"

Saturday, May 17, the LBA playoffs get underway. L’Olimpia is expected to face Dolomiti Trentino for the first act of the series. After disappointing in the Euroleague and struggling in the regular season, which ended with a modest fifth place, EA7 is called upon to win the Scudetto to make sense of a season that certainly wasn’t easy.
Everyone expects Olimpia Milano to go all the way. The roster is, on paper, the best in the entire LBA and, consequently, winning the Scudetto is in the ropes for the team coached by Coach Messina. However, according to Messina himself, in the red and white house they look at things from a different perspective.
“Scudetto as redemption? No, but we all want to finish in the best possible way. I understand that this is the way to evaluate the playoffs from the outside. Here at our place, wrong or not, we try to be a little different, thinking more in the medium to long term. If we don’t win, it will be an important part of growth” his words to Gazzetta dello Sport.
A very peculiar view that has already triggered the reaction of several Olimpia fans, who are convinced that, instead, the Scudetto should be an obsession and that winning the tricolor is the only way to save the season. There are those who think it’s a way for the white-and-red coach to take some of the pressure off the team.
