Italvolley, 2025 begins with tie-break success in Germany

The men’s national team’s 2025 journey began with a victory. At BMW Park in Munich, the Azzurri, led by CT Ferdinando De Giorgi, overcame the hosts Germany 3-2 (25-19, 25-22,20-25, 20-25, 15-7) in the first friendly match of the Azzurri season.
On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Bavarian Volleyball Association, the Azzurri broke the ice ahead of the upcoming official engagements of the long blue season. The match played at BMW Park, graced by a beautiful crowd, was the first official international match to be played on the ASB GlassFloor, an innovative high-tech glass playing floor.
The match between Italy and Germany, in Munich, was also the absolute debut match in the senior national team for Mattia Boninfante, Kamil Rychlicki and Giovanni Gargiulo included by the Italian coach in the starting sextet at the beginning of the match.
De Giorgi’s Italy took the court with the Boninfante- Rychlicki diagonal, Anzani and Gargiulo in the middle, Porro and Sani as setters with Laurenzano as libero.
Germany, on the other hand, chose Joscha at setter, Torwie opposite, Burggraf and John setters, Mohwinkel and Rohrs at center, Graven free.
After this first friendly match for the Azzurri, the next official engagements will be: the friendly match on May 30 (4 p.m.) in Cavalese against Iran and the BPER Test Match “Memorial Pasinato,” scheduled at the Kione Arena in Padua on May 31 at 6:30 p.m. also against the Iranian lineup.
