World No. 1 Jannik Sinner and defending champion Carlos Alcaraz will both play their opening matches at Roland Garros tomorrow, on the second day of the 2025 edition of the slam.

Sinner will headline the evening session, no earlier than 8:15 p.m., on the Philippe Chatrier against Frenchman Arthur Rinderknech, currently number 72 in the rankings. The 29-year-old transalpine defeated Sinner in the’only meeting between the two on clay, in Lyon in 2021, but the Italian holds a 2-1 advantage in direct comparisons.

The Italian is mathematically certain that he will remain No. 1 regardless of the result in Paris, thus extending his stay at the top. Giulio Zeppieri, who made it through qualifying, will instead be Alcaraz’s opponent in the second match from 11 a.m. on Suzanne-Lenglen.

The Spanish winner last year is aiming to become the third player after Rafa Nadal and Guga Kuerten to have triumphed at least twice in a row in Paris this century in men’s singles. At 22 years and 1 month, Alcaraz would become the fifth youngest in history to lift the Roland Garros trophy multiple times, after Borg (19), Nadal (20), Wilander (20) and Courier (21).
