After an hour and 39 minutes of play Jasmine Paolini, world number 4, triumphant winner of the Internazionali d’Italia and finalist last year on the red clay of Paris, painfully beat Chinese Yue Yuan, number 89, with a score of 6-1 4-6 6-3 in the first round of the women’s singles at Roland Garros.

In the first set there are as many as five breaks out of seven games but four of them are in favor of Jasmine who after flying 5-0 with triple break and not losing a single point on her own serve loses her serve but closes the partial immediately afterwards with the fourth break in her favor.

On 1-1 in the second set there are three more consecutive breaks, unfortunately two are in Yuan’s favor and they are the decisive ones for the outcome of the partial: neither tennis player has any other break point and so it goes to the decisive set.

Paolini goes ahead by a break snatching the serve to zero from Yuan in the second game but then suffers two consecutive breaks going down 3-2. But at this point Jasmine found her tennis again and strung together four games in a row winning the last 14 points of the match.

The fear has thus passed and in the second round the Foro Italico champion will meet the winner of the Australian derby between Ajla Tomljanovic and Maya Joint.
