Roland Garros: Carlos Alcaraz suffers, but beats Damir Dzumhur

Carlos Alcaraz suffers a little’ more than expected, but lands in the round of 16 at Roland Garros 2025. Indeed, the challenge against Bosnian Damir Dzumhur ended in four sets and over three hours of play, with a final score of 6-1, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4. In the next round the Spaniard will face Ben Shelton, who earlier had crushed Matteo Gigante’s dream by eliminating him in three sets.
The first set turns out to be something of a walk in the park for Alcaraz, who disposes of the practice in less than half an hour. In fact, if Dzumhur manages to hold serve in the second game, in the next five it is a monologue of the Spaniard, with three breaks in which his opponent collects barely a point in each of the three games. The script seems to repeat itself in the next set as well, but the Bosnian has a way to react to the new break at 2-1 by preserving the serve until at least the ninth game.
Suddenly, however, the third set tells a different story. Here Dzumhur wins his first break points as early as the first game and then capitalizes in the seventh to win an unhoped-for 4-3. Then he resists Alcaraz’s recovery attempt by annulling three of them in an eternal eighth game (as many as 14 points scored) and as many two games later. When, however, it is he who closes the set by halving the gap.
Alcaraz’s down moment seemed to continue in the fourth set, which opened with a new break by Dzumhur. The Spaniard, however, reared his head again and evened the score at 3-3. An incandescent final, with three games characterized by as many lost serves. The number 2 on the ATP circuit prevailed, however, for whom the adventure at Roland Garros continues. The loser, however, can leave Paris with his head held high.
