Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori will take the court Saturday to play for a chance to reach the round of 16 in the men’s doubles at Roland Garros 2025. Against them, in a match that will not start until 2 p.m., will be India’s Sriram Balaji and Mexico&#8217s Miguel Angel Reyes-Varela.

Bolelli and Vavassori, who got the better of the all-French pair of Herbert and Mahut in the previous round, are aiming to put behind them the recent disappointments of Hamburg and especially the Rome Internationals, where they lost the all-Italian derby against 19-year-olds Federico Bondioli and Carlo Alberto Caniato.

The elimination at the Foro Italico, which came after a long series of tie-breaks, moreover represents a sort of curse that over the course of this spring seems to have targeted Bolelli and Vavassori. Indeed, the two blues had also been eliminated at the Miami Masters 1000 at the super tie-break.

Interesting, then, is the challenge against Balaji and Reyes-Varela, who have just returned from their unlucky trip to the Skopje clay court in North Macedonia. Bolelli and Vavassori’s goal is indeed to build a good path to Roland Garros, after two very early eliminations had come in Monte Carlo before and Madrid after.
