Jasmine Paolini’s path to Roland Garros 2025 was interrupted in the round of 16. The Italian, world No. 4, succumbed after more than two hours of battle to Ukraine’s Elina Svitolina, with a score of 6-4, 6-7, 6-1. It was a hard-fought match of high technical level, however, which showed a Jasmine Paolini who failed to take 100% advantage of several opportunities, as many as three match points, to close out the match.

At the end of the match, Paolini lucidly analyzed her own performance, acknowledging both the Ukrainian’s merits and her own regrets: “We played a high level match,” she said, “A little bit of regret for the third set, also because the chances I had to come back I played them badly. She is an incredible player. I needed my best tennis to have chances, however, which I was not able to take advantage of.”

In spite of the great disappointment, Paolini does not lose her lucidity and is already looking ahead to her next commitments, particularly to the doubles tournament where she will partner with her usual partner Sara Errani: “Now the goal is to do well in doubles with Sara,” she concluded. There is regret, so much regret, for the finalist of the previous edition of the Paris Slam. Now in the rankings the Tuscan loses 1060 points, having not defended the Paris final. She currently remains fourth in the rankings, but could be overtaken by the chasers (Zheng, Andreeva, Keys, Swiatek, and Rybakina) still running in the tournament.
