When does Jannik Sinner play at Roland Garros: background against Alexander Bublik
After overwhelming Andrey Rublev in just two hours of play, Jannik Sinner looks ahead to the quarterfinals of Roland Garros where he will find one of the tournament surprises, Kazakhstan’s Alexander Bublik. It is not an unprecedented encounter between the two, who have faced each other four other times in their careers, although the last previous one was two years ago: the balance is 3-1 for Sinner.
As for the match schedule, the current world No. 1 and the as talented as inconstant Bublik (now No. 62) will cross arms on Wednesday, June 4, beginning around 1:20 p.m. It will be the center court, named after Philippe Chatrier, that will welcome the two tennis players, on a day that forecasts variable weather, with a chance of rain.
The first head-to-head between Jannik Sinner and Alexander Bublik dates back to the round of 16 of the Dubai tournament, in 2021: the South Tyrolean won, on that occasion, 2-6, 7-6(2), 6-4. Also in Sinner’s favor were the next two direct clashes: 7-6(5), 6-4 in the quarterfinals of the Miami Masters 1000 in 2021 and 6-4, 6-2 in ‘s-Hertogenbosch, in the quarters of 2023.
The last precedent saw Bublik succeed in front of the Halle audience, in the quarterfinals of 2023: the match, however, was broken on that occasion at 7-5, 2-0 for the Kazakh, before Sinner decided to withdraw due to a physical problem. The two have not met since: now, however, they are playing for a place among the top four in the Slam’s only tournament on clay.
