Golden Gala Rome: Battocletti record-breaking, Furlani comes close to a feat. Tamberi closes on mute

In an evening full of events for Italian sports, the Golden Gala in Rome, the fifth round of the Diamond League, certainly did not go unnoticed. Among the many Azzurri involved, Nadia Battocletti’s race in the 5,000 stands out without a doubt: in the race won by Kenoite Beatrice Chebet with the second best performance ever (14:03.69), the European champion of the specialty finished third, beating the Italian record she set in Paris 2024. Her 14:23.15, moreover, is the second best time ever by an Old Continent’athlete.
Also an excellent night for Mattia Furlani, who dreamed up the feat in the long jump with an 8.13 beaten only at the last attempt by Australia’s Liam Adcock, capable of jumping 8 meters and 32 centimeters. Second place for Italy also in the women’s pole vault, thanks to Roberta Bruni’s 4.65: better than her only the American Sandi Morris, with 4.80.
The Olympic Stadium also hosted the first seasonal competition of Gianmarco Tamberi, who, however, did not go beyond a measure of 2.16 in the men’s high jump competition won by Korea’s Woo, author of a best measure of 2.32. The jumper from the Marche region nevertheless enjoyed the cheers of the crowd, as he waits to regain the form of better times.
The Golden Gala 2025 was introduced by a minute of silence in memory of Giorgio Lo Giudice, a Roman journalist who has always been close to Italian athletics. Later in the evening, then, applause for the presence of Andy Diaz and Zaynab Dosso, winners of the triple jump gold medal and silver medal in the 60 meters, respectively, at the World Indoor Championships in Nanjing.
The Golden Gala 2025 was introduced by a minute’s silence in memory of Giorgio Lo Giuditta, a Roman journalist who has always been close to Italian athletics.
