These are the words of Jannik Sinner during the award ceremony of the Roland Garros men’s singles final lost to Carlos Alcaraz after having three mach points in the fourth set.

“I thank my team for putting me in a position to play such a match. We gave our best in everything. A few months ago we would have signed to be here. Paris is an extraordinary place for me.”

“It was an outstanding tournament, although talking is very difficult now. I won’t sleep very well tonight but that’s okay. Congratulations Carlos, it was another outstanding performance. Congratulations to you and your team. You deserve it. It is easier to play than to talk”.

Jannik Sinner remains at world No. 1 despite the defeat, but he also remains at three Slams won against Alcaraz’s five, and for him it is the first final he has lost, but it is also the first he has played on a surface other than cement.
