Jannik Sinner, Nicola Pietrangeli doesn’t go for it: "I’m not a brown-noser"

For quite some time, Nicola Pietrangeli felt, with good reason, the number one legend of Italian tennis. Then, all of a sudden, along came Jannik Sinner who, to the tune of triumphs, took all the glory, becoming the’icon of Italian tennis.
often painted as envious of the success of the current world number one, Nicola Pietrangeli has, on several occasions, explained how, in fact, he is a fan of Jannik Sinner and certainly not a detractor. He repeated it again, even more clearly, in an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport.
“You have to stop thinking I am a rosy person because Jannik has become a champion. I am happy and proud to see the’Italy of tennis dominating the world” the words of the 91-year-old winner of two editions of Roland Garros (1959 and 1960).
Nicola Pietrangeli also frames the Roland Garros final, scheduled for today, between Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz: “I expect a good battle. Jannik is very strong, unmatched…Alcaraz is a crazy horse, he does everything. He makes mistakes, then he makes phenomenal points, you never know what to expect. Ours is so strong, though, that in all matches he could leave leaving his rivals a few 15s ahead. He would still win”. In short, Nicola Pietrangeli can’t wait to enjoy the Roland Garros final as Jannik Sinner’s first supporter.
