Paolo Bertolucci tried to console Jannik Sinner in an article on the Gazzetta dello Sport website, the day after his defeat in the final at Roland Garros.

“Sinner will not sleep at night, but he could not have done more” the headline already says a lot about the former tennis player&#8217s thinking.

“There remains a bitter taste in the mouth at Roland Garros. There certainly remains that staredown of Jannik Sinner sitting at the end of the match after the final lost in the super tie-break of the against Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz“.

“The No. 1 looking into the void is an unforgettable image, like that of a triumph. But these are images that characterize the career of a tennis player who can get to be one step away from triumph and then lose. Other times the opposite happens. It happens. That is the beauty of sports in general but in tennis in particular: that is why we call it “the devil”s sport,” Bertolucci concluded.
