Darren Cahill, backstory on final lost to Jannik Sinner in Paris

Darren Cahill, coach of Jannik Sinner, during his appearance on Andy Roddick’s video podcast, returned to talk about the Roland Garros final.
“Every one of us on the team approached Jannik and gave him a hug. We told him that we were really proud of him, of his commitment. But it was not the right time to give him a talk about what we can learn. We will talk about that later. You have to show some empathy for what he is going through. Sadness, a few tears — a few tears for everyone, really”.
“After the Roland Garros final I have even more respect for him than I had before. He has great self-awareness. And I think to be a great champion in any sport, you have to have self-awareness. You have to be able to deal with failures and successes in much the same way. You try to learn from what happens, move on and improve. And he does all these things. Plus, he has an incredible work ethic”.
“He has extraordinary resilience, and that resilience will be tested after that match in Paris, in seeing how quickly he can move on. It doesn’t matter whether he wins or loses matches in the coming weeks, it’s more important how he can handle those moments, keep pushing, keep fighting. And he is willing to do that”, he concluded.
