At PalaDozza in Bologna, Italy beat Serbia 70-61 in the first game of Group B of the women’s basketball European Championships, which return to play in our country after 18 years.

Andrea Capibianco’s azzurre took the court with the inscription “Forza Achi” on the over-shirt used in the warm-up, as a sign of affection and closeness for Achille Polonara. The game was also attended by men’s coach Gianmarco Pozzecco along with his assistants Edoardo Casalone and Federico Fucà.

The best scorer of the match was a crazy Cecilia Zandalasini: 20 points (4 of 7 from three), 11 rebounds and 5 assists. In double figures also Lorela Cubaj (11) and Trimboli (10, career high in the national team equaled). On the other side Novana Jogic’s 19 and Yvonne Anderson’s 16.

Coach Capobianco: “We were able to handle the difficult moments well. These girls really deserve so much. We played a game of incredible quality except for a few minutes. Also thanks to the audience that supported us. We must learn to be more cynical.”
