Queen's: Jaume Munar scares Carlos Alcaraz, but it’s not enough

Jaume Munar came close to hitting the jackpot in the second round of the Queen’s tournament, one of the most interesting events of the season on grass ahead of Wimbledon.
The ATP ranking number 59 in fact put Carlos Alcaraz, the tournament’s number 1 seed as well as world number 2 and winner of the last Roland Garros, to the test. 6-4, 6-7(7), 7-5 the score, after nearly three and a half hours of play.
Alcaraz, who had beaten lucky loser Adam Walton with relative ease in the first round, quickly realized that the one against his compatriot would not be a walk in the park, although he was able to take advantage of today’s only moment of weakness in his opponent in the first set, which ended with a score of 6-4 thanks to the break won in the third game.
Munar then raised the level of play in a very intense second set, in which, however, he needed no less than eight set points to even the score.
Alcaraz managed to avoid being broken at 4-5 and 5-6, but in the tie-break that decided the fraction he was unable to close out the match despite two match balls at his disposal at 6-4, going on to lose the mini-set 9-7.
At the start of the third set, the Murcian went ahead 2-0, portending an easier fraction than the others, but Munar responded like a champion, even winning four consecutive games to take a 4-2 lead. With his back against the wall, however, all the talent of Alcaraz emerged, who first recovered the break disadvantage and then avoided a new tie-break by winning the twelfth game, which proved decisive.
