Marc Marquez enters more and more into MotoGP history. On the Mugello circuit, scene of the Italian Grand Prix, the Spaniard conquers the 100th pole position in his career, becoming the first rider to reach this milestone since 1971. An outstanding achievement, celebrated in the best possible way: with a 1’44″169 lap, a new all-time record on the Tuscan track for a MotoGP bike.

A performance that confirms the exceptional state of form of the Ducati rider, who after a few complicated seasons seems to be back close to his top level. His speed, however, did not leave much of a margin: Francesco “Pecco” Bagnaia closed qualifying at just 59 thousandths, sending a clear signal for the race. The Italian has the pace to challenge Marquez, and the clash between the two promises sparks from the first corner.

Also behind them, Alex Marquez, Marc’s brother and third with a gap of just 83 thousandths. The family challenge promises to be heated, while the second row will be opened by a rediscovered Fabio Quartararo, author of an excellent fourth time, followed by Maverick Viñales and Franco Morbidelli.

More back than expected Marco Bezzecchi, only tenth after a good pace shown in free practice. Out of Q2 the Hondas, with Johann Zarco the best representative of the Japanese manufacturer, but only fourteenth.
