Jasmine Paolini does not tremble in the decisive moment: she is in the semifinals in Bad Homburg

Bashing Brazil’s Beatriz Haddad Maia 7-5, 7-5, Jasmine Paolini secured a place in the semifinals at the Bad Homburg tournament, WTA 500 on grass used by participants to prepare for the next Slam tournament, Wimbledon. The battle against the South American athlete, number 21 in the world rankings, lasted one’hour and 35 minutes.
Paolini, who occupies the fourth spot in the rankings, took Haddad Maia’s measures around the middle of the first set, getting ahead by a break at 5-3: the Brazilian, however, responded by winning two consecutive games and forcing an extra effort from the Versilian, who was nevertheless good enough first to sign the counterbreak for 6-5 and then to win the twelfth game without leaving a single point to her opponent.
Somewhat different was the trend in the second fraction, with Paolini immediately going ahead by a break to 3-1, only to suffer the furious comeback of Haddad Maia, who was able to win three games in a row to take a 4-3 lead. From 5-4 on, here was the perfect finish by the Italian champion, who was good at winning the last three games to write the final word on the match script.
The Bad Homburg tournament thus remains an important opportunity, for Jasmine Paolini, to win on grass: of her three singles successes on the main circuit so far, two have come on concrete (Portorož 2021 and Dubai 2024) and one on clay (Rome 2025). On grass, however, she has played a decidedly important final, that of Wimbledon 2024, losing, however, to Barbora Krejcikova.
