Oscar Piastri hopes to wrestle with Lando Norris without more bumper cars

These are the words of world championship leader Oscar Piastri on the eve of the three-day Austrian Grand Prix at the Red Bull Ring circuit in Spielberg.
“The rules of engagement in McLaren? The goal is to keep things as fair as possible, but there will be situations where it can’t always be that way absolutely. But the main thing is not to get to clash, which we did well until Canada. It’s a difficult situation to handle, but that’s also nice: it means we’re fighting for something d’important for the team”.
“I want to have a fair chance to win both championships, and that goes for me as well as Norris– says the Australian driver again.”
Right now what we want is this. I have no intention d’to engage in any other talks right now”.
“After the race in Montreal I went to the stewards about the contact with Norris – Piastri continued -, but Lando and I had talked about it first. And he had apologized. All in the past, we just want to get back to racing. What changes from now? Nothing, we are always free to run and we will try not to get in contact again”.
On the work done by McLaren, Piastri points out that it has been “very good in handling things and we have a good lead in the Constructors World Championship. It is just something positive to have two competitive drivers”.
In Canada, however, not everything went smoothly: “we were not as strong as we hoped, we hope it was just an’anomaly. But we understood what went wrong and I am hopeful. The heat could potentially help us, but I don’t think it’s the thing that makes the most difference this year. I think the track really suits us”.
