With twenty-four hours to go before the draw of the Wimbledon tournament draw, the first calculations are already beginning among fans and insiders to figure out the possible crossovers among the designated seeded players. In this sense, Italian tennis is already certain of five names and their relative positions in the seeding, starting of course with the world number 1, Jannik Sinner, who will be number 1 among the starters at the’All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club.

In the men’s tournament, there will be three more Azzurri among the seeded players: they are Lorenzo Musetti, who will start with the number 7 seed, Flavio Cobolli, number 22 in the seeding, and Matteo Berrettini, who thanks to a couple of forfeits in the world Top 32 will enjoy just the number 32 among the seeded players in the men’s draw. Out of the seeding are Matteo Arnaldi, Lorenzo Sonego, Luciano Darderi, Mattia Bellucci, Luca Nardi and Fabio Fognini, waiting to see if Giulio Zeppieri will make it through the’last round of qualifying.

As far as the women&#8217s tournament is concerned, Italy will be represented at the seeded level by only Jasmine Paolini, while they will be “unseeded” Lucia Bronzetti, number 61 in the world, and Elisabetta Cocciaretto, who in the WTA rankings occupies the position number 122 at the ’update of Monday, June 23, but only two years ago was in the Top 30.

The hope of Italian fans is to dispel one of the last taboos of Bel Paese tennis: the Wimbledon tournament, in fact, is the only one that has never been won by an Italian at the men&#8217s singles and women&#8217s singles level, with Matteo Berrettini a finalist defeated by Novak Djokovic in 2021 and Jasmine Paolini beaten by Barbora Krejcikova in 2024. Only Sara Errani and Roberta Vinci can boast the title in the London slam, but in doubles: in fact, the Italian pair won in 2014, beating Timea Babos and Kristina Mladenovic in the final.
