The first edition of the Club World Cup will also be remembered for the many weather alert breaks. Already several matches have been interrupted due to adverse weather risk. The’latest, in order of time, was the’eighth final between Chelsea and Benfica.

The match in question, won by the Blues, was suspended at’86’ only to be resumed after a full two hours of suspension. Now, at risk, there would be Inter-Fluminense, scheduled for 3 p.m. local time in Charlotte, i.e., the same city where the Chelsea–Benfica challenge was staged.

The forecast is far from reassuring. The risk of lightning seems high and, as a result, the chances of the match being delayed or, worse, suspended would be quite high.

There is a protocol, namely the Seek Cover Protocol, which obliges the suspension of any event, in case of possible lightning strikes, so that everyone can find adequate shelter. In short, watch out for the weather factor that could become decisive in the challenge, valid for a place in the quarterfinals, between Inter and Fluminense. In Charlotte, at the Bank of America Stadium, in addition to watching the 22 players on the field, it will be appropriate to keep an eye on the sky as well, hoping that everything will go well and not result in yet another weather alert suspension.
