Lorenzo Musetti spoke in anticipation of starting the Wimbledon tournament as a Top 10 player and No. 7 seed in the main draw: “I am here with no expectations, I just want to try to enjoy the moment”.

“I have been working a lot off the court,” recounted the injured Carrara player at Roland Garros, “it has been weeks full of therapy and exercises to speed up the recovery process. All this led me to be here, and that was the goal. Then, of course, no one wants to lose but I will try to take it one match at a time, aware that there will be no shortage of difficulties, right from the first round match.”

“What I had felt in Paris during the match was unfortunately correct, the MRIs confirmed what I feared. The doctor told me that a normal person, a non-athlete, would take a month to start again, but I was able to cope quickly also thanks to my age and the therapies that helped me heal. It is important to be here, it was what we set out to do. I’m fine now and since I’ve recovered I’ve never had the feeling of relapse. This is good, we will see how the body will respond to an official game.”

“On grass you play once a year, it is an adaptive surface and you go so much by feel. Last year I came here with great confidence and a different awareness. I had immediately had good feelings in both Stuttgart and Queens’ and had come to Wimbledon with a different feeling. This time it will be all about discovery, hopefully bringing the positive memories and good things done last year to the court. I will try to do my best”, he concluded.
