Carlos Alcaraz celebrates Fabio Fognini

Carlos Alcaraz honored Fabio Fognini after beating him only in the fifth set in the first round of Wimbledon. “To be honest I don’t understand why it is his last Wimbledon – admitted the Murcian at the end of the match – He can play 3-4 more years. I have to give him full credit, he played a great match. He’s a great player, he’s insanely talented and has shown it throughout his career. I am happy to have shared the court with him”.
“Playing the first match on Centre Court, the first match of any tournament, is never easy – added the world number two -. I have been training well, playing well on grass. But Wimbledon is special. It is different”.
“I felt the difference between Wimbledon and other tournaments. I just tried to do my best, to handle the nerves as best I could–continued the defending Championships champion -But I would say I can do more. I have to improve”.
“I’ll try to work on what didn’t work today: the serve, the response – which I think is a really important weapon on grass – and let’s continue to enjoy this experience at Wimbledon” concluded Alcaraz.
