Jannik Sinner continued his solid run at Wimbledon and gained access to the round of 16 for the fourth time in his career. The Italian number one confidently overcame Pedro Martinez in three sets with a rounded score of 6-1, 6-3, 6-1 in a match that lasted one hour and fifty-five minutes, confirming himself as one of the main players in this edition of the London tournament.

The match opened with the world number one immediately aggressive and focused. The Italian got off to a strong start, posting two breaks in the first five games and quickly taking a 5-0 lead. Martinez then called a medical time out due to a back problem, but still chose to continue the match. The Spaniard found a break to extend the set, but Sinner closed easily 6-1 without conceding any further chances.

The second partial was decidedly more tightly contested. Martinez managed to hold the first two turnovers, but in the fifth game he broke serve, allowing Sinner to stretch. The South Tyrolean had a chance to close out the set early but wasted five break points that could have put him up 5-2. Martinez thus tried to get back into the match, but Sinner’s coolness at key moments made the difference: the Italian nullified five consecutive break points during the eighth game and then closed the set at 6-3 by taking advantage of a drop on his opponent’s serve.

In the third set, Sinner upped the tempo again, immediately putting pressure on the Spaniard and snatching serve in the opening set. The Italian dominated the court, finding deep and accurate shots and closing the match with a clear 6-1. Sinner will now face Grigor Dimitrov, himself victorious against Ofner in the round of 16.
